Just for Kicks
MLS will sponsor a soccer event next fall for the sake of those who enjoy that sport and are not in any other school sponsored sport during that season. A recent survey of extracurricular interest among the returning student body, which asked them to rate ten potential new activities, showed that there is a high interest in soccer. At the same time, the MLS faculty and board recognize that because of the small size of our student body at this time, starting a full-fledged soccer program would have a negative impact on current school sponsored sports. That has led to the idea of a one-time soccer match or (perhaps) tournament in which a team of interested MLS boys and girls will play against another similar team or teams from the area. The MLS side will have practices with a coach or two from the area for up to four weeks before the event. Spectators will be encouraged to come and watch the fun. The event will be evaluated afterwards and a recommendation will be once again sent to the governing board for their reaction to this idea.
